"Biogram Toneprint: Hydrangea 1.11" explores the digitising of organic structures through invisible light frequencies. Created from a 3D scan of a hydrangea flower and printed as a toned cyanotype on handmade watercolor paper, this unique print captures the exquisite details of the natural world through digital eyes.
The Biogram print series employs light from two ends of the invisible light spectrum in the production process. Each living plant is captured captured with contemporary LIDAR technology, utilising infrared light to meticulously capture the spatial dimensions of living plants, resulting in intricate 3D scans. The printing process is equally unique, employing the other end of the visible light spectrum of UV light with the classic cyanotype technique. Each Biogram Toneprint is later seeped in different organic teas to produce an array of varied colors and chemical reactions. By translating 3D scans into dynamic topographic maps, it unravels the connections between material and digital memory systems, the old and new imaging technologies, and brings the invisible into sight.
